Gary Patterson and the TCU Horned Frogs recently received a commitment from class of 2021 German quarterback Alexander Honig.
He is the first commit for the 2021 TCU recruiting class. Honig was born and raised in Germany where he began his football career. He will continue to play overseas in Germany until he signs with the Horned Frogs in 2021.
In January he participated at the National Combine down in San Antonio, TX. The combine annually features the top 600 underclassmen in the nation. Past alums of the event are Matthews Stafford, Patrick Peterson and Trevor Lawrence.
He received the invite after submitting his film to be reviewed by the committee.
“My coach told me that I would get an invite based off of my highlight tape and a few weeks later I got the invitation letter,” said Honig.
The National Combine was the first time he competed in a non-college camp setting. Honig enjoyed his time competing because it allowed him to see where he stacked up against his peers.
” I realized that I would have to work even harder because there were so many great players out there who work as hard as I do. So, it was awesome do be around people on you level and to compete. Definitely prepared me for upcoming camps.”
Upon his return home to Germany, Honig continued training for the summer camp circuit. His road to TCU from Germany is something he takes great pride and wants to show other European players that playing NCAA Division 1 college football is possible.
” You just have to keep working hard and believing in your dreams. You will get a chance to perform in front of great coaches and when you get the chance you have to be ready and impress. So keep working and your chance will eventually come. ”
